Smith Mountain Lake is one of the most beautiful places in our nation; a manmade lake formed right in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains has become home to about 18,000 residents. However, in addition to the Smith Mountain Lake residents, it also accommodates many tourists throughout the year. With great fishing and golfing and of course, many other outdoors activities like horseback riding, hiking, swimming and sailing.  Let’s not forget the unique stores for shopping and great tasting restaurants.

The area gets quite a bit of rain, averaging over 40 inches each a year, or just over 3 inches monthly, with about 10 inches of snow yearly. Average temperatures range from 44 degrees in December / January to 85 degrees in July / August.
